Walking through the city streets
Late at night
Silence hanging thinly, like a veil
Roads wet reflecting yellow
Streaks of light
The clouds are gone but stars are barely seen
Frowning I return home to live a dream…
Walking on a pebble beach
At twilight
Waves crashing, salt spray cold and sharp
Along the coast a lighthouse shines
A warming sight
I smile pleased with the day that’s passed
Soon the stars will glisten, and I’m at peace, at last.
A poem that’s now a song. I wrote it a good few years ago, but I thought I’d give it an airing for National Poetry Day today, 3rd October 2013
